Council Committees

The Marshy Point Nature Center Council is a non-profit headed by an Executive Board, which oversees a number of Council Committees. Although membership is not required to participate in Council Committees, they are headed by members who in turn report to the Board. We are always looking for talented people of all backgrounds to assist us!

Volunteer Committee

Who we are and what we do:

The Volunteer Committee, chaired Director Kirk Dreier is the volunteer base that supports Marshy Point. We help to maintain trails and equipment, monitor plant and animal populations, and provide visitor support for special events such as the Spring Festival, Earth Day, Fish Fry, and our Holiday Party. Check out our current opportunities here.

Exhibit Committee

Who we are and what we do:

With so much to learn about at Marshy Point, there is plenty that can be done to expose visitors to our natural history. The Exhibit Committee, chaired by Director Kirk Dreier with Weekend Naturalists Terry Covington, works to find funding for and orchestrate the construction of interpretive signs, exhibits, and displays throughout the park.

Publicity Committee

Who we are and what we do:

Coordinate with staff to write and distribute press releases. Design posters, flyers, and invitations!  Publicize weekend programs, special events and monthly lectures… not to mention the latest newsworthy events such as the new Education Wing and construction! With so much going on these days, there’s so much to make known! Know a good place to drop off some flyers? 5 minutes of your time could be hugely helpful! Time commitment varies according to your own schedule. Press releases are sent weekly. Flyers and posters come out for special events and monthly lecturers.
